About Bitola
Bitola, North Macedonia's second-largest city, sits in the Pelagonia plain at the foot of Baba Mountain and Pelister National Park. Known historically as the “City of Consuls” for the many foreign consulates that operated here in the late Ottoman period, it still carries that cosmopolitan air along Širok Sokak, a long pedestrian promenade lined with 19th-century facades and cafés. Just outside town, the ruins of Heraclea Lyncestis preserve Roman mosaics and a theatre from a settlement founded by Philip II of Macedon.
