About Ohrid
Ohrid is one of Europe's oldest continuously inhabited towns and sits on Lake Ohrid, among the oldest and deepest lakes on the continent. Together, the town and lake form one of the few UNESCO World Heritage Sites recognized for both cultural and natural significance, often called the “Jerusalem of the Balkans” for the dozens of historic churches packed into its old quarter. The cliffside Church of St. John at Kaneo, Samuel's Fortress and the Plaošnik site — birthplace of Slavic literacy under Saints Clement and Naum — make it North Macedonia's best-known destination.
