About Prilep
Prilep lies in the Pelagonia Region beneath a dramatic cluster of granite hills crowned by Markovi Kuli (“Marko's Towers”), the ruined medieval fortress linked to the legendary Prince Marko of South Slavic folklore. Long known as the country's tobacco-growing center, the city's economy and identity are still tied to the surrounding fields. Treskavec Monastery, perched high above the city on Zlatovrv mountain, adds a centuries-old pilgrimage site to the dramatic landscape.
